The 2026 World Cup is the first three-nation tournament in football history. The United States, Canada, and Mexico will share hosting duties across 16 cities, with 60 of the 104 matches in the US, 13 in Mexico, and 13 in Canada. The expanded 48-team format means more cities, more group-stage venues, and a more geographically distributed tournament than any previous edition.

The venue holds approximately 82,500 in its World Cup configuration and is one of the largest finals venues in tournament history. The third-place playoff is the day before at a venue still to be confirmed.

Estadio Azteca, hosting the opening match, becomes the only stadium in football history to have hosted three different World Cups (1970, 1986, 2026).
